A debate has began in Niagara Falls and it’s started with the approval of Nik Wallenda to tightrope across Niagara Falls this summer. Niagara Falls has a long history of daredevils. Some see Wallenda’s walk as a tribute to the time while others see it as a return to the “bad old days” of carnivals and publicity stunts.
The approval of Wallenda’s tightrope walk in Niagara Falls has prompted other daredevils to look for approval for stunts. Well know stuntmen like Steve Trotter who concurred the falls in 1985 and 1995 in a barrel is looking to make it a hat trip and has hired a lawyer to gain approvals. Peter DeBernardi and Dave Munday who have both gone over the falls (Munday twice) have inquired about attempting the stunt again.
There is no denying that there is a lot of interest in Wallenda’s stunt, the question is whether it is in the long term best interest of Niagara Falls to foster the daredevil atmosphere or better to focus on the awe-inspiring beauty of Niagara Falls.
