Daredevil Nik Wallenda, self proclaimed “King of the High Wire” plans to cross Niagara Falls on a tightrope. Until recently, this would have been strictly against the law but New York lawmakers gave approval to the bid by Nik Wallenda citing his considerable experience to soothe safety concerns.
Wallenda has set world records for the longest and highest high wire acts performed while riding on a bicycle. The Flying Wallendas have been in the daredevil business since 1780. The family has traveled and performed with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus since 1905.
It is likely the high wire act will be filmed for the Discovery Channel program “Life on a Wire”. The performance is hoped to attract tourism to the Niagara Falls area. The IMAX Theatre and Niagara Daredevil Gallery will need to update our extensive collection of daredevil paraphernalia if Nik goes through with his planned walk!
The bill still must be signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to become law. His office declined to comment on the legislation.
