Niagara Falls Daredevil Nik Wallenda is asking the public for donations to contribute to his tightrope walk in Niagara Falls on June 15th, 2012 at 10pm.
Although Wallenda has a broadcast deal in place with ABC television, he is looking at a shortfall in funding. To get the Ontario and New York State governments to agree to the stunt, Wallenda had to front the costs of setup, security and rescue. Wallenda has estimated his costs to be close to 1.2 million to put on the event.
Wallenda was initially expecting corporate sponsorship to make up any shortfall but the fear of being associated with the stunt if something went wrong has kept sponsors at bay. ABC is forcing Wallenda to wear a safety tether but the announcement may have been too late to have sponsors get on board this late in the schedule.
Wallenda is asking the public who are interested in supporting the event to donate through the web address below.
Donation packages include signed posters, VIP viewings and special tightrope lessons.
